Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, also known as Huvadhu Atholhu Dhekunuburi, lies in the far southern part of the Maldivian archipelago, offering spectacular scenery and an authentic atmosphere far removed from mass tourism. Despite being made up of 153 islands, the total population is less than 20,000, spread across about ten main islands: Fares, Fiyoaree, Gaddhoo, Hoandeddhoo, Maathodaa, Madaveli, Nadellaa, Rathafandhoo, Thinadhoo, and Vaadhoo. The capital, Thinadhoo, serves as the administrative and cultural hub of the atoll, with around 6,400 residents. This vibrant island offers a unique blend of local authenticity and modern infrastructure, making it a key point of interest for travelers wishing to explore the region.

How to get there: The most convenient way to reach Gaafu Dhaalu is by taking a domestic flight from Velana International Airport (Malé) to Kooddoo Airport, located directly within the atoll. The flight takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Some private resorts also offer seaplane transfers directly from Malé, with a journey of around 90 minutes, offering stunning aerial views of the islands.
