Good To Know

Haa Dhaalu Atoll, officially known as Thiladhunmathi Dhekunuburi (South Thiladhunmathi), is one of the lesser-explored gems of the Maldives. Located in the northern part of the archipelago, it occupies the southern part of the vast Thiladhunmathi Atoll and includes the island of Makunudhoo, renowned for its spectacular coral reefs. With 38 islands, of which around 20 are inhabited, Haa Dhaalu Atoll offers an authentic experience away from mass tourism.

The atoll's capital, Kulhudhuffushi, also known as "the heart of the north," is located about 275 km from the capital Malé and is home to around 16,000 inhabitants. This urban center, which gained city status in 2020, is famous for its mangroves, a unique ecosystem that contributes to the island’s biodiversity. While Kulhudhuffushi is the most developed center in the atoll, with a hospital and secondary school, fishing remains a fundamental activity for the local community.

Haa Dhaalu Atoll is an ideal destination for those seeking untouched beaches, coral reefs teeming with marine life, and an authentic Maldivian cultural experience. With its natural beauty and tranquility, this atoll is perfect for those who want to experience the Maldives away from the crowds.

How to Reach Haa Dhaalu Atoll: it's easily accessible thanks to the presence of a local airport since 2019, while a small international airport is located on Hanimaadhoo Island, just 11 km from the capital.
