Baa Atoll

Good To Know

Located northwest of Malé, Baa Atoll (Maalhosmadulu Dhekunuburi) is recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, making it one of the most extraordinary destinations in the world.

Here, nature takes center stage: from the incredible dives at Hanifaru Bay, where you can swim alongside manta rays, whale sharks, and parrotfish, to the numerous reefs and channels that make this atoll a true paradise for divers. The northern and eastern sides of the atoll offer spectacular coral gardens and waters teeming with life, while the western side is known for its captivating underwater channels.

Despite tourism becoming dominant, the local culture remains alive: in Eydhafushi, the capital of the atoll, the production of feyli, the traditional Maldivian sarongs, is still passed down through generations—an ancient art that continues to involve many locals. Baa Atoll consists of 51 islands, only 10 of which are inhabited, while Goidhoo Atoll (also known as Horsburgh) has 6 islands, 3 of which are inhabited.

If you're seeking an authentic experience filled with breathtaking dives, unspoiled nature, and centuries-old traditions, Baa Atoll is the perfect destination for your Maldives trip. It is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, recognized for the extraordinary marine life found in Hanifaru Bay.

How to reach it: It is easily accessible by a 30-minute seaplane flight from Malé, or you can opt for a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo Airport followed by a boat transfer to your chosen resort island.
